Plot
Bella Cullen awakens from her transformation as a new born vampire and goes to hunt with Edward. As she is in the forest she sees a human falling from a cliff who hurt himself. She quickly runs through the forest as she couldn't hold herself back, but instead eats an animal. She returns and finds out that Jacob has imprinted on Renesmee. Bella gets annoyed with Jacob and he tries to explain that it happened before Renesmee was born which is why he and Bella had some sort of connection. Charlie keeps ringing the Cullens house phone as he is worried about Bella. The Cullens decide to leave their home as they have said Bella died while giving birth and it was too risky for Bella to be seen. Jacob is keen for the Cullens not to leave and proceeds to talk to Charlie. Jacob tells Charlie that he is a werewolf and says that Bella has changed. Jacob then tells Edward and Bella, and they think that he has told Charlie that they are vampires. Jacob explains that he only told Charlie about him being a werewolf. Charlie comes to see Bella. The Cullens teach Bella how to act like a human before Charlie arrives. Emmett challenges Bella to an arm wrestling contest, claiming that he is the strongest in the house. Bella easily beats him as the Cullen family look on. Sam comes to see Jacob, and the two shake hands.
A few months pass and Renesmee is growing rapidly. Renesmee is catching snowflakes with Bella and Jacob when Irina sees her from the top of the mountain and goes to the Volturi. Bella sees Irina and runs after her only to find that Irina has gone. Irina tells the Volturi that the Cullen's have committed a crime. Alice has a vision of the Volturi coming for the Cullens. Edward states that Irena thinks Renesmee is an immortal child. Carlisle tells them all a story about children vampires saying that they couldn't be restrained and couldn't keep their secret. He then says that the Volturi had to intervene and the children needed to be destroyed. The Cullens make a plan to get as many people as they can to be witnesses. Alice and Jasper suddenly leave, only leaving behind a note that Sam found; giving it to Carlisle. The Cullen's go on with their plan and gather vampires from around the world and asks them to be witnesses for Renesmee. The other vampires were in denial, but Renesmee uses her powers to communicate her first memory with them which shows Bella and her birth.
Bella learns she is a Shield and has the power to repel any harm. Bella asks one of Irina's sisters to show her how she uses her power all over her body. Irina's sister uses her power on Edward, asking Bella to repel it with her body. Bella reads Renesmee a bedtime story and as Bella is about to leave, Renesmee asks if Alice and Jasper ran away because they were going to die. Bella says no and that they left to keep them safer. Bella and Edward speak, and as he goes to run her a bath, Bella looks at the back of the note that Alice left. She then goes to find the book that the page is from and pieces it together and finds that Alice made sure only Bella got the hidden message. Bella then goes to see a man who claims he has been working with Alice and Jasper for more than twenty years. The man then gives Bella an envelope which has two tickets and two passports belonging to Renesmee and Jacob. Bella then realises that Renesmee will have a future but Edward and Bella would not be a part of it. Bella writes a letter to Renesmee and puts things in a backpack. Edward and Bella are at Charlie's house opening presents, Bella gives Charlie his and finds that it is a ticket for a fishing holiday. All the witnesses and the Cullens are outside telling stories to each other.
Carlisle and Edward converse telling Edward that everyone there has someone to fight for, implying that they might fight the Volturi. Rensmee and Bella are in a tent, and Bella tells Rensmee to say with Jacob even if he takes you somewhere. The Volturi come, and Carlisle is the first to speak. He tells them that Renesmee is not an immortal and that the witnesses can attest to that. Aro calls Edward forward and Edward gives Aro his hand. Aro asks Edward if he could meet her and Bella, Renesmee, Emmett and Jacob go towards him. Aro holds out his hand for Rensmee, but she uses her power to show him her first memory. Aro then believes them, he asks for Irina to come forward and asks if she is the child Irena saw, Irena says that she has changed and the Cullens are innocent. The Volturi kill Irina. Aro thinks that Rensmee will be a risk for their kind. Alice and Jasper come saying she has evidence that she won't be and asks to show him. Alice says that it doesn't matter what she shows him because whatever he sees, he still won't change his decision. Bella asks Jacob to take care of her daughter, as Jacob runs off. A fight starts off with Carlisle. Carlisle's head then gets ripped off, and a another fight breaks out ending with Aro dying. The vision finishes and Alice asks Aro if that is what Aro wants as his future. Two people come forward and Alice says that she has been finding witnesses of her own. The witness says that he is a vampire-human hybrid who is 150 years old and he was the one who made his aunt immortal. One of the Volturi says that they will not fight today and they walk off.
Back at the Cullen home, Alice sees another scene from the future: Edward and Bella together with Jacob and a fully matured Renesmee. The last scene of the movie ends with Bella and Edward in a meadow. Bella says that she wants to show Edward something. She shows him memories of the two from the previous films, and Edward asks how she did it. Bella says she practised and Edward asks if he could see it again. The movie ends happilly saying the last lines of the novel: "And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever."

Production
* Development
After confirming one film, Summit Entertainment had been keeping their eye on a fifth installment. In May 2010, Billy Burke and Peter Facinelli were the only cast actors who were confirmed for both parts of Breaking Dawn, while other cast members such as Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz were still in negotiations for a second part. If the actors holding Summit back from making an official announcement did not reach an agreement with them, the studio would not have minded recasting their roles, as was done in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with Bryce Dallas Howard's character, Victoria. However, in June 2010, Summit officially confirmed that a two-part adaptation of the fourth book would start production and it was made clear that all major actors, including the three lead roles, the Cullen family, and Charlie Swan, would return for both parts. Actresses Christie Burke, Rachel St. Gelais, Sierra Pitkin, and Eliza Faria will play Renesmee at her various ages in Breaking Dawn.[7]
* Pre-productionBy August 2009, Rosenberg said that the scripts for Part 1 and 2 were 75 to 85 percent completed. She found the greatest challenge in writing the scripts to be the final sequence of Part 2: "The final battle sequence is a big challenge because it lasts 25 pages", she said. "It's almost an entire three-act story in and of itself. You have to track [keep it all in one setting] hundreds of characters. It's an enormous challenge to choreograph on the page and for Bill [Condon] to choreograph on the stage." She had written various drafts of the scene but, at that, hadn't revised or discussed them with Condon yet. She said, "That's the next big hurdle to sit down with the stunt coordinator and create the ballet. It's a lot of work. I'm exhausted, but we're intent on making them the best scripts yet." Godfrey called Part 2 "an action film in terms of life-and-death stakes" and said that in Part 1 "there are the pangs of newlywed tension that occur that are relatable even in a fantasy film. Marriage is not quite the experience that they thought it was." Condon thought of Part 1 "as a real companion piece to Catherine Hardwicke's movie". Condon explains, "Like, everything that got set up there gets resolved here. I think you'll find that there are stylistic and other nods to that film."
Godfrey considered releasing the second film in 3D to differentiate between the time before and after Bella becomes a vampire, an idea originally proposed for Eclipse, but said that the decision is up to Condon. However, he said that if the second film were to be released in 3D, he would like to shoot it with the proper equipment in "real" 3D as was done with Avatar (2009), not convert it into 3D in post-production as was done with Clash of the Titans (2010).[8] However, it was confirmed on February 12, 2012 that Part 2 would not be filmed in 3D.[9]
* Filming
Filming started on November 1, 2010 and wrapped, for most of the cast, on April 15, 2011, ending the franchise's three years of production since March 2008. Filming was shot on location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Vancouver, British Columbia; and at the Raleigh Studios in Baton Rouge.
On the subject of the final day and her final moment as Bella, Stewart stated, "After that scene, my true final scene, I felt like I could shoot up into the night sky and every pore of my body would shoot light. I felt lighter than I've ever felt in my life."[10] Pattinson thought the day was "amazing" and commented, "I then asked myself why we didn't do this in those four years. Every difficult moment just vanished."
In April 2012, the crew and cast, including Pattinson and Stewart, returned for reshoots to pick up some additional shots for technical work with some of the cast and stunt actors. However, these re-shoots did not include any new scenes or dialogue.[11]
* Special effects
Tippett Studio first began working on the CGI (computer-generated imagery) wolves in February of 2009 for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and the look of the creatures has evolved, becoming more photo real over the course of the saga, with the input of three different directors. "It's a subtle balance of just how anthropomorphic these wolves are," says Eric Leven. "Bill (Condon) wanted to make sure that we had a sense of the human or the shape shifter in there. Finding that balance of how much of a human performance versus an animal performance was important for Bill."
Leven adds, "Bill has always treated the wolves as characters and never as computer generated things, and directs them in the same way he'd direct any actor. He would always give us direction like Sam should be angrier. It's the best way to work. His treating these creatures as characters, instead of just computer bits, was really great."
"Because we've been working on this franchise for such a prolonged period of time, we've been able to improve the look from show to show," comments Phil Tippett. "Wolves generally are pretty darn clean and since Bill wanted the wolves rangier, that means a lot more fur matting and clumping, like they've lived out in the woods. We edged towards something a bit more feral."
"However, there is also a balance between look and technology," adds Tippett. "The body count of the wolves escalates and because we're adding a great deal more hair to get the right texture, that fur really ups the rendering time. We've gone from four wolves to eight to twelve, to sixteen in Part 2. So we have to be very careful about that balance, because it takes hundreds of hours to render each wolf."[12]
* Music
Main article: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (soundtrack)
It was revealed in January 2012 that the soundtrack for Part 2 had already started production.[13] Confirmed for the soundtrack in advance were "Heart of Stone" by Iko, which plays when Edward and Bella are talking in the cottage after finding Alice's note and "Where I Come From" by Passion Pit, which will play when Bella wakes up from her transformation.[14] Carter Burwell, the composer of Twilight and Breaking Dawn: Part 1, returned to score the final installment of the series.
In later announcements, Carter Burwell confirmed that the score was complete. "The movie basically upholds the final installment with a score that has the same jungle-music feeling The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 brought us," Burwell affirmed. "The music pieces that take place in the catalystic final battle will be very much like the nineteenth song in the previous movie's score, 'It's Renesmee' and the twenty-fourth, 'You Kill Her You Kill Me'."
Reception
The film has received mixed reviews from critics. At Rotten Tomatoes the film currently holds a 46% rating, based on 160 reviews with the consensus stating: "It might be the most enjoyable chapter in The Twilight Saga, but that won't be enough to make Breaking Dawn – Part 2 worth watching for filmgoers who don't already count themselves among the franchise's converts".[15] At Metacritic it holds a score of 52 out of 100, based on 31 reviews.[16] Overall, it is the highest rated Twilight film in the series.
